Colt Ar-15 Post Ban

Alrite, this has been on my mind for a while and hopefully the AR aficionados out here can clear a few things up for me. A year and a half ago I picked up an AR15 from a local shop. I wanted to get a Colt because someone told me that was what the US brand is.

The only colt they had was an M4 style which was cool by me. However this model was the 'LE' model and has something like 'military use or export only' etched into the side of the lower. The guy tried to jack up the price on it saying it was really rare or something. I ended up getting it, of course, for a few hundred cheaper than he asked but my question becomes: 'Is there really anything special or collectible about this rifle?' I have not done any mods to it rather than adding a C-more red dot sight for fear that it may lower the collectability/value of the weapon.

Hi, I saw the thread which listed colt AR15 serial numbers, it seems to be the same one which is floating around in alot of places. I'm interested in buying a Colt Ar15-A3 Tactical Carbine model# 6721. The serial number in that list are explained as follows: BD AR15A3 Tactical Carbine 6721 BD000134 and Below (AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine - very rare model) The one I'm looking at buying has a serial number in the B001XXX range.

I haven't had much luck contacting colt yet about the serial numbers So, I figured I'd post here, to see what people thought. Anyone know anything about serial numbers for this model of gun? I think that list is incorrect 2. Where can I find a good value (or you can tell me)? It's brand new complete(not fired), in box, in plastic.

Thanks, -Rob. Hksnyper, The differences were minimal in my mind, as most of the changes were done across the board with other models as well. The rear take down pin was a little different, the front take down pin wasn't drilled for a detent, and used a screw on much of the production.

The LEO/GOV warning was on many of them. Recent ones should be coming with a M16 carrier instead of the goofy half moon carrier. I have no doubt that a few of our members can come up with other changes, but for the most part, it is now what it was when it started. A 16' 1:9 heavy barrel carbine. From the current Blue Book of Gun Values. AR-15A3 TACTICAL CARBINE (R6721) -.223 Rem. Cal., M4 flattop with 16 in.

Heavy barrel, 1:9 twist, pre-ban configuration with flash hider, bayonet lug, and 4-position, A2 sights, collapsible stock, removable carry handle, 134 were sold commercially in the U.S., most collectible AR-15. On the R6721, serial numbers BD000134 and below are pre-ban. Note: the serial number cutoff on this model, as Colt shipped out a lot of unstamped post-ban law enforcement only 'LEO' rifles before finally stamping them as a restricted rifle. Current production version has a different model number - AR6721 and a different serial number prefix - LBD.

R6721 - Super rare and highly collectable preban. AR6721 - Nothing special - MSRP around $1300 for an unfired, new-in-box. Originally Posted By mm34b: From the current Blue Book of Gun Values. AR-15A3 TACTICAL CARBINE (R6721) -.223 Rem.

or maybe another way to say it, when did the R6721 end, and the AR6721 begin. And is there any difference between those two models?

What we do know at this point - The 'for sale' rifle is a unstamped restricted Model R6721, based on the serial number prefix (BD) and serial number (BD001xxx) information you stated. It can't be a Model AR6721.

Ban

When the AR6721 began production, they had and still have the restricted mark on the mag well in addition to a new serial number prefix of LBD. Production of the R6721 (both unrestricted & restricted serial numbered) ended in 1994.

That does not mean all R6721 left the Colt warehouse in 1994. The Ban ones were serial number BD000135 and above. Colt will be able to tell you when the AR6721 began production but I would guess 1994. I would also imagine the only difference between the last R6721 and the first AR6721 was the lower receiver mag well markings. Originally Posted By mm34b: From the current Blue Book of Gun Values.
