Hi all, how's life. I've got a Toshiba Satellite L640 with LUbuntu 12.10. My BIOS is v 1.70. I think I should upgrade it, 'cause last version is 2.70 and it might solve some battery issues.

The problem is that the bios upgrading software from toshiba site is only for Windows. It's not even for DOS, in that case I could boot from a pendrive with FREEDos installed and do the upgrade. So, anyone knows any way?

I've read trying to run the upgrade application through wine is not advisable. Also, I guess it's not advisable running it through VMWare, but i don't know about this. Of course, I have no dual boot system, just Lubuntu Qantal. Thanks in advance. Hi Upgrading the BIOS might solve the problem but honestly speaking - I doubt it. If Windows detects the status properly then I think BIOS upgrade is a long-shot.

With the knowledge that the information may not be a 100% match since we are unaware of the exact model You have AND that it can not be certified as compatible with your BIOS, You can for informational purpose take a look at the list of changes to the US model BIOS and consider if You still want to upgrade. Click the highest BIOS version (should be 2.70) in the list. You'll find the list of changes from your current 1.70 up to version 2.70. However, this is a long shot and honestly speaking, most likely a waste of time when trying to solve your problem.

I strongly belive that your problem comes from lack of driver / old kernel. I found a Bug report in the Ubuntu Bugzilla.

Study buddy Ang aking TOSHIBA Satellite L640 ay sobrang malaki ang naitulong nito sa buhay ko dahil hindi na ako mahihirapan sa pag gawa ng aking mga research sa mga paper works at project ko sa school kasi madali na lang akong makapag internet. Simple lang naman ang design nito medyo luma nga naman pero maayos naman duin ito para sa akin. Hindi rin naman gaano mabuilis ang processing speed nito pero kahit papano ay nag wo-work naman din. Medyo mabigat din naman tong laptop nato pero palagi ko parin dala-dala ito pag may pasok kasi nandito lahat ng files na kailangan kong project kaya ayos naman talaga pero ito lang talaga ang maganda sa Toshiba auy ang tibay nga naman ng laptop.

The graphics also so good. Usable laptop for me. And it portable also I always bring this laptop to my work and studies it is very good for me because it make my life easy to every project and my work easy also.

The battery also is quite longer i really like it because i used this laptop without plugging its charger so it is very nice. But i was confuse if how much this laptop here in the Philippines.?? I can do a program, code:) design in photoshop, and i can download many things, like OS, antivirus, programs, and by using this laptop im a computer technician right now, self study by using this lappy:D and im proud to have this laptop:D Bad his usb ports is so limited its 3 usb ports only. And i cant put many flash drive in my laptop, so i use a usb hub:D.
