I know you're trying to help Dejay, that's what this forum is about, but you want to be careful about who you tell that to. We've had more than a few sites where employees found about this, and periodically put it into redundant mode without knowing that it really meant there was a serious problem. No one else knew about it, didn't call for tech support, etc-until there was huge problem with credit cards or the sales info. Consider this: Employee puts the system into redundant mode, credit cards are spooling, no money going to the bank for days, etc. You get the picture.

If you're seeing this message, there is a problem. Use it with caution, Deejay. RE: Aloha Make Fileserver password? (Vendor) 26 Sep 06 18:41. Yes, Make Fileserver is a short term solution until you find the cause of the larger issue, i.e.

FOH terminals not communicating with the fileserver for some reason. We use this to allow the FOH business to continue while you step back into the office and figure out what is going on, that is one of the key points of Aloha, redundancy, but even with that said, train managers and employees to call for support when they see the Make Fileserver message, support should work them thru this part then help figure out the bigger issue, then run Fileserver Recovery and alohaakamai3 is dead on about this. As a cautionary note, try to get the system out of redundancy as quick as possible. RE: Aloha Make Fileserver password? (IS/IT-Management) 26 Sep 06 22:29. Thanks for backing me up on that, Rad. I didn't want to come off as arrogant or against the exchange of information.

Remember me reset password. Terminals can browse server, create and modify. When in redundant mode and you do a file server recovery from Aloha.

This is just one of those features that-dare I say it-works almost TOO well. Sometimes, in the interest of getting the client up and running, it's tempting just to tell them how to put into redundant mode.

The History of the Panga Richard Steinberger It was easy to fall in love with this nimble yet tough little workhorse, especially since a colorful fleet of pangas adorns the. Of panama crossword.

But, we learned the hard way with more than one client. It's usually not as earth-shattering a losing (or delaying) credit card info, but it can be annoying and frustrating for the client. Consider the servers position-the network cable comes unplugged on one computer on a busy Friday night, and they want to get a check for the customer. They are greeted with a MAKE FILESERVER button, and happen to know how to 'fix it.' They can either go get a manager, make the customer wait, take a chance on ruining their tip, etc. Or, they can enter make that single the computer the filserver, and be done with it.

That is, until they try to get their order from another terminal (or any order after that, or run check out, etc). Then all hell breaks loose. It's sort of like the Super User Login on the back of house. Occassionally, I've been lazy and just told clients how to do.

And on some occassions, they have gotten themselves into trouble with it soon after. Sometimes a little bit of knowledge can be bad thing!:) RE: Aloha Make Fileserver password? Thanks renokp for the info. I haven't needed to use the mf mode in almost 3 years supporting this restaurant it was just one of those things that has been stuck in my mind ever since I got a support call several months ago and was having trouble talking the manager thru some things to get the network back up. Like alohaakamai3 said, it was a busy friday night and I couldn't get there right away.

I told her to hit the MF button (might be a pun there!) and then she said it needed a password. Long story short, I was able to talk her thru some things and got it back up. It's just been in the back of my mind ever since.

Thanks for the help.

I just installed 5.3.47 on a clean Windows Server 2003 computer I had laying around in my shop, for a client to replace his dead server, but cannot get it to start the FOH. It is a fresh install of Windows SBS 2003 R3, with all updates, on a computer I refurbished about 2 years ago and has been setting on the shelf. Right now, FOH is running in redundant mode. EDC is working properly. I have spent a few hours on this, yet am at a loss. I'm hoping to have a fix before by SBS 2003 CDs are returned to me (will be 3 or 4 more days possibly).

Terminals can browse server, server can browse terminals. Can copy files both ways.

Terminst functions normally. I have installed Aloha on several Windows XP and 2003 machines and have never seen this behavior before. Yes all perfect. IPs are all the same as before, the POS is on its own network, server has 2 Ethernet controllers, POS on LANA 0. 10.0.10.1 term1 10.0.10.2 term2 10.0.10.3 term3 10.0.10.100 server 255.255.255.0 mask for all. No gateway for all.

Server second Ethernet set to 10.0.2.208 255.255.255.0 10.0.2.254 gateway, LANA 6, all but tcp/IP v4 disabled. Tried swapping Ethernets and their configurations.

Makefile Example

Tried disabling windows firewall. Ctlsvr is normal. All BOH functions work. Terminals can browse server, create and modify directories, etc.
